Review of Teaching the Skills of Soccer
This book is a collection of games, drills, and individual exercises for soccer.
I found it to be good, but not great.
Pros:
- Well organized by skill developed (ball control, shooting, etc)
- Description of each exercise includes not only the workings of the exercise, but also the materials (balls, cones, etc) needed, and their estimated difficulty
- Every item includes a diagram
- Several ideas not found in other books (example, there are several variations on the traditional give-and-go pass)
- 900 different exercises!!!
Cons:
- There are 3 skills on each page, so the diagrams are small. This makes interpreting some of the more complex ones a hassle.
- Some of the drills are overly complex
- Probably 150 or so of the 900 are just variations on another item already listed (for example, 1 item is dribble and feint with the inside of the foot; another is dribble and feint with the outside of the foot)
Overall, some of the details and readability could be improved, but still definitely a good book. I highly recommend this book for coaches looking to add variation to their practices.
